Books (for Anabaptist History and Theology)
An excellent, albeit short, list of Anabaptist resources from the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary Library. The list includes a fine collection of high-def scans of etchings from The Martyrs' Mirror, and a bibliography of 16th-century Anabaptist materials.
Anabaptist Primary Documents
A collection from the Anabaptist Network of Great Britain.
Primary and seconday Anabaptist Resources
From a research guide assembled by Michael Skinner, who is the Religion, Theology and Philosophy Librarian at Baylor University.
The Schleitheim Confession (annotated)
A new translation by John Howard Yoder from the original text of the 1527 Schleitheim Confession, also known as The Seven Articles. Since Anabaptists generally eschewed confessional formulae, this is a rare document.
The Schleitheim Confession of Faith
J. C. Wenger's translation of the seminal 1527 Anabaptist document.
The Dordrecht Confession of Faith
A Mennonite Confession dating back to 1632. This is part of a larger Web site, Biblical Viewpoints Publications, with several resources germane to the Mennonite and Anabaptist movements, including a page of Anabaptist Confessions.
The Anabaptist Story
Part of a seminary textbook on church history, this readable account by Stanley A. Nelson is a helpful introduction to Anabaptist thought and history.
The Anabaptists and their Stepchildren
A bitterly anti-anabaptist work from the staunchly confessional Presbyterian Dr. F. N. Lee. There's much valuable historical information mixed in with the polemic, though. This is a response to Leonard Verduin's The Reformers and Their Stepchildren, which bends over backward to paint the anabaptists in the best possible light. The truth of the matter no doubt lies somewhere between the two perspectives.
Did They Dip?
By John T. Christian. "An Examination into the Act of Baptism As Practiced by the English and American Baptists before the Year 1641." Much baptist and anabaptist history in this work.
Mennonite Connections on the World-Wide Web
Links to Mennonite and Amish sites on the WWW, with some helpful information about those groups' history.
Mennonite History
A work still in progress, but with interesting historical data on the origins of the Anabaptist movement. This is only one page of a large Web site entirely devoted to the Anabaptists. It contains material relevant to modern Anabaptist groupsas well as another helpful article with some historical background on the Anabaptist movement, and "Meet the Anabaptists," a collection of articles on Anabaptist history, confessions of faith, and other items of interest.
The Mennonite Quarterly Review
A quarterly journal devoted to Anabaptist/Mennonite history, thought, and life.
